Stories from the margins. Made for the center.

Writing and producing character-led stories that explore heart, imagination, and a little weirdness. Suryawan marries deeply human stories about marginalized folks with unexpected world-building. That which conventional storytelling too often leaves behind, they center across screenwriting, producing, editing, and collaborative media arts.

What collaborators say

“Muchtar creates a meaningful storyboard, where each transition is purposeful and impactful to the overall theme. The transitions from nature to relations of motherhood and self exploration are both easy to identify but also meaningfully conveyed through the directors' choices through various placement and camera panning techniques.”

— Oneg Tristan, Operations Director of 4words Community, on fate

“Whereas most screenwriters tend to make statements through dialogue, it is Muchtar's careful silences and pauses in their writing that is the most arresting and speaks volumes more than dialogue ever could. Their writing refuses easy answers. It's the kind of work that lingers—the imagination of the images stay, but the questions keep moving.”

— R.C. TAYLOR,CO-DIRECTOR AND CO-SCREENWRITER OF  THE POET OUTSIDE THE DOOR

“On set, Muchtar is the calm in the storm. They hold the story even when production gets loud, and they never let a character become an afterthought.”

— DAISY THOMPSON, WARDROBE LEADR, FATE
